Welcome to our first review of 2003. Firstly I need to apologise for the lack of reviews recently, christmas time
and the new year was very busy and on top of that the hosting company experienced a server crash losing all data.
Anyway, were back online and hoping to bring you several more reviews over the coming months!
Our review comes from a popular restaurant in Selly Oak after a number of emails from our visitors suggesting we try this
restaurant. Any restaurant in Selly Oak really needs to have some quality, highly populated with students most of the restaurants
offer discounts for students.
We decided not to eat in this time but to get a take away. We gave starters a miss and ordered
chicken tikka bhuna and meat balti with two
nan breads, we shared fried rice and chips.
Included was 3 popadoms with mint dip and onions. The food smelt good and I couldn't wait to get home. Once I was home it
it was the test, just how good was the food. First out the bag were the popadoms, slightly salted, crisp and still warm is always abonus.
The Chips followed in a brown bag that was soggy from the heat and fat from the chips, this was off putting but not
nearly as bad the thin soggy McDonald looking fries. The Fried rice was light, fluffy and cooked in onions. The nan bread was a bit doughy
but not bad, maybe a touch on the small side but tasted fine. The main course's were good, plenty of source on both,
even the bhuna which usually doesn't have as much. Plenty of Chicken in the tikka bhuna but was quite surprised when there was hardly
any meat in the meat balti. There was just the right amount of food with a little left over.
Overall the food was good, the advise taken to try the Shapla was well worth it, the only things to note was the lack of lamb
in the meat balti and the chips wasn't chips. Overall a 3 star rating. The cost of 2 main courses, 2 nan bread, fried rice
and chips was £14.30 Shapla will certainly be seeing us in the near future eating in and reviewing the restaurant again.
