Parking for this restaurant isn't easy, situated close to the main traffic lights on the high street of Moseley village
means its difficult to get to without a short walk. The Jewel in the Crown is licensed so you can't take your own drinks.
As we entered the restuarant the first thing we noticed was the bright pink florescent lights; It's quite a small
restaurant so it wasn't long before the light became to bright and seemed to be constantly in your face.
The menu however was refreshing, there was several different dishes you don't see on every menu, noticeably the
TAWA & KORAI.
The regular meal of Chicken & chips was followed by a chicken & garlic balti, chicken tawa &
chicken korai. Served with a peshwari & plain naan, corriander & garlic kulcha (similar to naan), and boiled rice.
The chicken korai was very similar to a chicken bhuna, cooked in onions, peppers and tomatoes but served in a wok with
corriander. I was considering this dish but chose the chicken tawa, a hot sizzling dish served on a hot plate
(like a sizzling steak) with curry sauce, peppers, onions green chilli and tawa. Both dishes were fine, the chicken
& garlic balti was also excellent, plenty of fresh garlic, tomatoes and chicken included.
Apart from the bright pink lights we were happy with the meals. Although we all seemed very happy with the meals 3 of us had
upset stomachs the same evening and following morning.
The price for the four of us was, £45 excluding tip.
Overall we awarded the Jewel in the Cown : 2 stars
