Well, this restaurant held high expectations before we ate here. It has been recommended before and a friend of mine had
recommended to eat here, he is asian and told me how a lot of asian people always eat here because the food was so good.
So, on a saturday night after a good night out on broad street we headed off in a taxi for the Stratford Road and Desi Khana's
We got there just before 1am, the restaurant was quiet with only one party eating. I'm glad we got the taxi because there
is nowhere to park along a busy Stratford rd.
When we entered the restaurant it appeared very clean, it was also very small. On the right was an open plan area where
all the food was cooked. It all looked clean. At the end of the night all the staff were busy cleaning almost every eare they could.
We ordered drinks but somehow ended up with water which wasn't a major problem. We looked at the menu whilst we waited
and noticed that there wasn't a great deal to choose from. Only a handful of starters, main course's and deserts. We tried to order
some starters but the restaurant didn't have them. We ended up having sheesh kebabs each as that was the only starter they
seemed to have. We ordered Chicken and Lamb balti along with a
normal naan and peshwari naan. Out starters arrive soon after, 2 sheesh kebabs each, colourful and smelt good. Tasting
ever bit as good as they smelt.
We'd just finished our starters when our main course's came over followed by our naan breads. I had the Peshwari naan
and my wife had the plain naan. The naan bread wasn't as soft as they should have been for bread. Rather hard
and pretty small. I immediately seen the look of horror on my wifes face as she tased her Chicken Balti. She dropped
the naan bread into the dish and pushed it away. She said it was that bad she would not eat any more. I then tried my
Lamb balti and sure enough, it tased like the chef had used some of the detergent he was using for cleaning to add some
flavour to the dish. I picked out all the lamb and ate just the meat with my hard naan bread. My Wife would not even do that.
At no time during the period we were eating did any waiter or staff ask if everything was ok like any other restaurant.
When the waiter came to clean away the dishs he seen all the food that was left but still made no comment. He simply cleared them
away. We asked for the bill and politely declined the offer of desert.
Everything was going fine until we hit the main course. All then went very sour. A 1 star rating is only just deserved
for the starters. I can't believe they actually charged us nearly £20 for this utter garbage.
Desi Khana's is a place to steer clear of.
Directions None included. I would never recommmend this restaurant to anyone.
