We grabbed a take away menu from this restaurant in view to eating here after seeing it a number of times passing through. The
warm yellow and neon sign makes it look welcoming.
On the front of the menu it claims the restaurant has been awarded Birmingham Chef of the year for 1998/1999 and Awarded National
Curry Chef finalist 1998/1999.
When we first arrived it wasn't difficult to park. It was just after 5pm and the restaurant
was empty. There is parking directly outside the restaurant but, the snooker club 100 yards away can sometimes get busy so parking
isn't always easy. The restaurant itself is pretty small holding about 40 people, its clean and feels like a new restaurant.
After our last meal at The Balti Bazaar we hoped the onion
Onion Bhaji starter we ordered here would be as good. Onion bhaji & a
Tandoori Mix Kebab made up our starters.
We had 2 popodums while we waited for our starters, served with mint dip, tandoori sauce & onions.
The onion bhaji was, as expected, no competition for TBB, but was still thoroughly enjoyed, 2 flat onion bhajis
along with a selection of mixed Chicken, Lamb tikka & sheek kebab. Both served with fresh salad. The Sheek kebab was
quite spicey and there was a lot more chicken than lamb tikka.
We seemed to be waiting a long time for our starters to be served and we waited even longer for our main courses.
We ordered the Bengal Tandoori Platter which is basically a tandoori mixed grill, a
choice of nan breads is included in the £6.25 price tag so we ordered an extra Garlic nan bread. A
Diced Lamb Balti Dupiaza, served with Chips.
The lamb dupiaza was good, lots of fresh onions and peppers but not to hot.
The meat was exaclty how it says, "diced". We couldn't complain about the tandoori platter either, a large
selection of Chicken, chicken tikka, sheek kebab and lamb tikka served with fresh salad.
The food itself was pretty good, not the best we've tasted but certainly not bad. It was served very
hot so you need to be carefull. We needed a good few minutes to allow it to cool down.
The Bengal Chaa sells soft drinks, there is an off license approximately 5 minutes walk if you wish to take your own drinks.
Our overall opinion of the restaurant was good. Its small, quiet and the food is good, the price is also good. Our only criticism
was the waiting time, we were in the restaurant for nearly one and a half hours and seemed to get bored waiting for the food to be served.
The price for 2 people including Starters, main courses, nan & chips totalled £20.00 (including tip)
Overall a 3 Star rating from the BaltiGuide.com
