Don't forget, if anyone has any suggestions for Christmas meals please let us know.
Another November review comes a little early; we've now stepped up a gear and started to review
more restaurants every month as promised. We selected the Balti Cottage in Stirchley not only
because of the closeness but also, out of all of the restaurants in Stirchley this is one of the
few I haven't tried. From the outside this restaurant looks like a small old restaurant, a dark
blue sign over the top of the restaurant doesn't really stand out and unless you pay attention
its easy to miss.
Parking is usually difficult but on this occasion we got lucky, a few spaces were available
opposite the restaurant so we had no problems parking. The Balti Cottage doesn't have its own
parking facilities.
As I entered the restaurant I realised just how small it was, it only had a handful of tables,
no more than 7 occupied the main seating area; two of these were already taken. Don't let this
put you off though as the Balti Cottage does have room for parties of up to 40 people upstairs.
The Balti Cottage does serve soft drinks but it's not licensed so you will need to bring your
alcohol if you fancy a beer or a glass of wine. There is 2 off-license's within walking distance
so it's not a problem.
The food was the usual high standard I've come to expect from all of the restaurants on the
Stirchley Stretch. After we ordered our food I nipped out to the off-license for a 4 pack.
We only had to wait a few minutes when I returned for our free Onion Bhajee starters. Fresh
salad & mint dip was served with our starters, our main courses soon followed.
The Chicken Tikka main course & Mixed Tinder Balti was served with 2 nan's; one onion nan
and one plain, a side order of chips also followed. The chicken tikka main course was almost
too much, lots of healthy chunks of chicken all server with fresh salad and the mixed tandoori
balti was a mixture of chicken & meat (lamb). Overall the food was excellent, the service was
good and the price was even better. A meal for two including 2 starters, 2 main courses, 2 nan
breads and chips totaled £13.60. Unbeatable.
We would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone and our recommended dish is Chicken
Tikka main course.
