As i've already mentioned, Balti2000 is one of two takeaways I know of in Birmingham. The first is located in Rubery and this
one in Kings Heath, (actually Maypole). I have used the takeaway in Rubery a number of times as I live quite near and never
been disappointed.
Parking is usually fine, there's a Chinese takeaway nearby so it can be busy. When I entered the
takeaway it was already very busy, a number of people waiting for orders and several delivery drivers coming and going. A
similar layout to the takeaway in Rubery with seating available and a small table. A newspaper is also provided for your wait.
The interesting thing about the Balti2000 takeaways is the open plan kitchens. You can watch you're food being cooked and
prepared while you wait.
The food from here was very plain; eating on my own I ordered Lamb Tikka Balti
with Nan Bread and chips. I also ordered a
Sheek Kebab starter. The popadoms were thrown in free.
The Sheek Kebabs was good, probably the darkest red and biggest kebabs I have seen, thick and
meaty served with fresh salad. The portion of chips was also big, easily enough for 2-3 people. The nan bread also followed
suit with an extra large portion. I hoped the balti was going to be the same, it was but also had a down side; there was
a lot more sauce than meat.
Although there was plenty of food for 2 people it was let down by a very plain tasting balti, there wasn't much meat in this
balti either. It seemed to be lacking in any real spice. It certainly didn't live up to the reputation of the Rubery takeaway.
The price for 1 person including starter, main course, nan, rice and chips was: £8.00 (approx)
After some thought I decided a 2 Star rating would be appropiate.
