The first review of many to come from Birmingham's famous Balti Triangle. The Al Frash has been recommended by a number
of people over the last few months so it was only fair that this was the first restaurant we visited for our reviews.
There is a car park behind the restaurant, there was plenty of spaces and we had no trouble parking. The restaurant is
not licensed so we took a short trip up Ladypool Road and found an off-license.
Al Frash looks small from outside but don't be fooled, Take a look inside and theres plenty of room for over 100 people
including upstairs. The spiral staircase is a nice touch too. Decorated in dark blue the Al Frash is clean and tidy.
There was six of us on a Wednesday evening including two children. We decided to skip starters and get straight into
the main course. We ordered 2 x Chicken Rogan Josh, 1 mild and 1 normal for the children. 1 x Chicken Tikka main course
1 x Chicken Curry and 1 x Balti Special (this was taken
from the Chefs recommended dishes - King prawn, Chicken tikka, Mushroon & special kashmiri spices).
We also ordered Chicken and chips for the non-balti/curry eater with us. We ordered
2 x Peshawari, 1 x Garlic, corriander & onion nan, 2 x chips, 2 x rice
to go with our meals. Our meals can out in the usual Balti dish, the childrens meals can out first and without wasting any
time they tucked in. You could see the difference between the mild and the normal dish, both looked delicious and it made
us all look forward to ours. We didn't have to wait very long before our meals were served. All piping hot and fresh. All
6 meals looked good and there wasn't a complaint amongst us. There was plenty of meat with all the dishes and even to
much for some. The nan breads although small were just enough, the Peshawari nans were cooked just right with a perfect
amount of honey. The mile rogan josh was mild enough for our non balti eater to try and for the first time actually
like it.
After an excellent meal we all agreed that we without question return to this restaurant at some point to enjoy another meal.
The price for the six of us was reasonable as well, £39 excluding tip. - outstanding value!
Overall we awarded the Al Frash : 4 stars
